Motives are weighed by the LORD

It isn’t only what we do in life that matters it is also why we do the things we do. Even our good activities should be checked as in what motive we do the things we do. Even the respected good spiritual activities like prayer can be done with wrong motives. Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. Luke 14:12
We are already paid for the spiritual activities we expect a reward from God if we do it in a wrong motive.
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. Matthew 6:5
Men see the appearance but God sees the heart and evaluates the motive behind our action. All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the LORD evaluates the motives. Proverbs 21:2
Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:12-13
All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD. Proverbs 16:2
